The Strength of Plain Water
you're holding me at arm's length
and i do not have the energy now
- the Want
to insist
Water can erode the iron lock
if she truly wants to
i think i can finally understand.
no one has cared about you
but you,
and so you are guarded
a Stone.
the Stone resists the Water, but in time -
years, even -
Water exerts her will
boring a path straight thru his heart
even if your name is
everywhere
even the path i find my feet on
i will swallow the dust of your name
brush it from my skin
lock it into my subconscious
maybe you will be part of me always
but you will never know it
and i will not admit it
except here on this map of the Change
where a creek will have your name
i can keep my heart locked behind a wall, too
You didn't invent this
you're nothing more to me now
than the ice-blue line of water
crossing my map,
a promise i have yet to locate
a destination
one of billions i could choose
remind me: which of us is the Water
and which is the Stone
