Snow Day
it started snowing at twilight,
giant flakes of snow
falling like pieces of a torn
letter
silence and darkness
fell together,
covering everything.
the land
held its breath,
everything going under
for a few minutes
you stood, surveying
the landscape beyond our door
black dog at your side
the pair of you, looking out
i was on the couch with a book
in one of your old shirts, some undies
and a pair of wool socks
gonna have to wake up
an hour earlier tomorrow,
you say grumpily,
gonna have to shovel out
we'll do it together, i say
truth be told
i just like to be near you while you work
i leave my book on the couch
sidling up behind you
snaking my arms under yours
to place both hands on your chest
slowly, i move to the buttons of your shirt
unbuttoning one by one
feeling your chest under my fingers
you lift one of my hands, kissing it
i trace up the side of your neck
with my tongue
turning to face me
you drop kisses on my nose
and my eyelids
you scoop me up
carrying me to our bed
i really really like those socks ma'am
you say,
chuckling in that deep throaty way
that still makes my nipples hard
looking up at me from between my knees,
your eyes are the brilliant icy blue
of the swimming hole
frozen over
